The Idea of Progress (Maïté TES2)

        I'm going to talk about the ideas of progress,

 First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion. The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change. A technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place.

 To illustrate this I have chosen 3 documents :

- William Kamkwamba  

- Odd man out 

- Design your babies (A)

I have chosen these documents because these are technical and scientific progress. 

      Firsly, I chose the document video on William Kamkwamba. He was born in a poor farmer's family  Malawi, with a bis family in a small house. Where there is famine. There are no electricity or water. He learned phisics on his own  and after he built windmill. Now, his family can have electricity and can pump water. They can recharge cellphone and use computer and help neighbors. It's a really technical progress. It talk about a revolutionnar innovation because William built a windmill with nothing.

       The second document is a picture. The picture represents a lot of musclar on a conveyor belt but one of them is defferent. There is more short and skinny. He is being reject by the factory and grabbed by a claw to be thrown in a trash container because he's different from the other men. This cartoon wants to show us the cloning with not differences between all humans for create the perfect man. There are disadvantages because it could be dehumanized and he could cause suicide because the people would feel different between other people.

     The last document it's a cartoon talking about the designer babies, show us two ugly and fat scientists while searching the perfect baby. It's ironic that they're trying to make a baby like them. For me, this project is negative because is it's not natural, he depersonalize people, the babies shouldn't be a fashion and a business and it can cause discrimination. But the designer babies is positive progress to help some mum who can't have children.

     The last two documents have many links by the scientific progress. The stake of these documents are clones or same babies where all babues are a like. But these scientifics projects are a lot of same negative effects: is a danger for human because the babues could be dehumanized a treated like marchandise.

     In conclusion the progress is very important for evolution of earth. We can say that the earth and man are always looking to innovate. Whether technological, scientific or social. Theses advances can have negative or positive effects even.
