The idea of progress (Stéphanie TES2)

Today, the idea of progress takes a great place in people's lives because there are several types of progress: technical, scientific, social... and every day, we make new discoveries. The first document is called ODD MAN OUT. This document is a cartoon. I can see a lot of muscular men but one is different. He is short, skinny and weak. He is being rejected by the factory because he has some “defects”, he is different: he is not as muscular as the other men. In my opinion, we can be different because it should not be a problem because everybody can't be the same. Today, in our society, the physical appearance is very important. I don't agree with this idea. We must not be too tall or too small, too slim or too fat, too extrovert or too timid but we have to be in the norms. The second document is an extract from the film THE SIXTH DAY. Adam is the character of this scene. He is in a shop called “RePet” and he wants to clone his daughter's dog. The salesman tries to explain the situation and to convince Adam to clone his dog. On my mind, there are advantages and drawbacks with this process. We can have as safe as real pet and the same dog, it is an aproven technology but it can be dangerous. The last document is an text: SCIENCE BABIES. This document is an article of press of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. In this text, we learn that exists laboratories where we produce a lot of identical babies. They are factory babies. I think that this process has one advantage: women who can't have babies naturally, could have them with this process. But this process has too a lot of disadvantages: Everybody would be the same, there would not be any originality, we could not recognize them. In a future world, I think factory babies would be a lot and genetic selection will be a normal thing. The progress can be a real advantage to evolve for peoples in their lives but I think that some process can be dangerous for the population and their health.
